As professionals we know that our educational system needs more resources to ensure student success. We need smaller class sizes, particularly in full day kindergarten. We need healthy schools where emotional needs of young people are understood as central to their learning, a key step toward preventing violent incidents. We need properly-funded & well-maintained infrastructure and access to resources and technology that support student learning.
As teachers we often use our own finances to support our classrooms. We volunteer time outside school hours on committees and in support of extra-curricular activities. Without our good-will, schools could not function as central parts of the community. Regardless of whether this work is recognized, we carry out our responsibilities with dedication every day. I’ll work hard to empower our members. For results on our issues, ETT must be a high-participation union. Members needs are served by strong relations with parents and community members, our natural allies in a strong public educational system. I will advocate for equity for teachers: This includes proper parental and bereavement leave, gender and LGBTQ protection, and anti-racism education.
Together we are #BuildingUnionPower
